SOFIA BUNCY (HMP & YOI New Hall)

AWARD WINNER 2016-17: Sofia, from Muslim Hands UK, is granted an Award for pioneering ‘Muslim Women in Prison’, a ground-breaking initiative researching, and providing personalised responses to, the needs and challenges facing Muslim women in custody and after release. AWARD WINNER 2016-17: Howard receives an Award for his inspiring work as a mentor to prisoners at HMP/YOI Parc, where he has worked for over a decade, drawing on his own experiences as a former offender and substance misuser, to help transform the lives of others. CHRIS CURZON & ANN JOHNSON (HMP Preston)

AWARD WINNERS 2016-17: Chris and Ann win their Award for their work as Horticultural Instructors at HMP Preston. Nominated by a group of offenders, their determination and infectious enthusiasm saw them take a tiny plot of land and a handful of seeds, and grow them into something which has not only transformed the prison environment, but also helped change the lives of those offenders who work with them. [This Award is supported by MTCnovo.]

AWARD WINNER 2016-17: Fiona, a Probation Officer with the National Probation Service, North West, is described as a “star in the organisation”. AWARD WINNER 2016-17: Bernadette, a Prison Officer at HMP Bullingdon, is described in her nomination as “just amazing”. She receives her Award for combining outstanding skill and compassion towards both inmates and staff, with a no-nonsense approach and commitment to the highest standards from prisoners, her colleagues and herself, for which she has earned respect and affection throughout the jail. [This Award is supported by the Prison Officers Association.]

AWARD WINNER 2016-17: Prison Officer Chris is a Healthy Living Instructor at HMP Hewell, and wins an Award for the exceptional humanity, dedication and skill he brings to all aspects of his role, which he has taken to a level well above normal expectations. AWARD WINNER 2016-17: Geraldine receives an Award for her wide ranging and transformative contribution to HMP Full Sutton, which extends far beyond her role as Writer in Residence. She is described as “universally respected” and someone who “works tirelessly to enhance the lives of prisoners and staff”, while her Governor says “I can describe Full Sutton as a community because of people like Gerry”. [This Award is supported by Interserve.]
