AWARD WINNER 2024-25: A Supervising Officer at HMP/YOI Downview, Sharon wins an Award for the peerless compassion, humanity and care she shows towards the women and their families in all aspects of her work, and in particular, when a prisoner is terminally ill or has died, in her voluntary role as Family Liaison Officer. [Sharon’s Award is supported by the Prison Governors’ Association.]

COMMENDEE 2024-25: Aaron is granted a Commendation, as a Senior Officer at HMP Maghaberry, for his instrumental role in transforming the Care and Supervision Unit, through his skilled and compassionate approach to the prisoners, and the systems he has introduced to improve the care and support they are offered.

COMMENDEE 2024-25: Amy receives a Commendation for her exceptional work, recognised nationally, as Diversity and Inclusion Manager at HMP Wayland – improving outcomes, particularly for minority ethnic groups, and enhancing confidence in the Discrimination Incidents Reporting Form and complaint systems.

COMMENDEE 2024-25: Andy is Commended for introducing a range of new workshops, and turning an old astro-turf into a thriving gardens area for prisoners and staff, in his role as Industries Manager at HMP Birmingham, and for his wider contribution to creating hope and opportunity throughout the prison.

COMMENDEE 2024-25: PE Instructor Andy’s Commendation is for transforming the gym at HMP/YOI Brinsford into a fitness and wellbeing centre – broadening the range of activities on offer, introducing a suite of industry-recognised health and fitness qualifications, and promoting healthier living to both prisoners and staff.

COMMENDEE 2024-25: Charles’ Commendation is for all-round excellence as a Prison Officer and PE Instructor at HMP Barlinnie, for his absolute dedication to rehabilitation and the potential for change, and, most recently, for introducing and adapting the ‘Healthy Dads Healthy Kids’ programme for prisoners and their families.

COMMENDEE 2024-25: Craig, a Probation Services Officer at HMP Bullingdon, is Commended for his work, in a voluntary capacity, as Veterans in Custody Lead. The passion he brings to the role, and the impact he has, have been praised by the Chief Inspector of Prisons and across the jail.

COMMENDEE 2024-25: Officer, Davie is granted a Commendation, as the Vocational Training Joiners Instructor at HMP Dumfries, for the external partnerships he has forged, the range and quality of work the shop produces, the future job opportunities it provides, and the hope and support he gives to those he employs.
