ADAM CONNOLLY (HMP Liverpool)

COMMENDEE 2018-19: Adam, from Sefton Council for Voluntary Service, receives a Commendation for his inspiring leadership of the Merseyside Offender Mentoring Project, which provides mentoring and befriending support to offenders from HMP Liverpool, both in custody and after release.

MICHAEL DOYLE (HMP Grendon)

COMMENDEE 2018-19: Michael is a Supervising Officer at HMP Grendon. He is Commended for “a lifetime contribution to the Prison Service,” and in particular for his pivotal role in the prison’s new Therapeutic Community Plus unit for prisoners with learning difficulties.

COMMENDEE 2018-19: Chris is the Business Engagement Manager at HMP & YOI Hatfield. He receives a Commendation for his inspirational approach to training the men in his care. His work, helping create new opportunities for offenders, includes the aptly named prison farm shop, ‘Thyme Served’.

COMMENDEE 2018-19: Marie is a Behavioural Change Officer at HMP Low Moss. She is granted a Commendation for her work in developing and leading ‘Talking Heads’, a support group for prisoners with complex mental health issues, giving them a chance to safely explore difficult issues.

REVEREND LESLEY MASON (HMP & YOI Send)

COMMENDEE 2018-19: Lesley is the Managing Chaplain at HMP Send. She receives a Commendation for creating a network of over 80 volunteers to provide counselling and support to the women at Send, and for developing the prison’s ‘Managing Connections’ mentoring initiative.

COMMENDEE 2018-19: Margaret is a Resource Worker for Women’s Justice Services in South Lanarkshire. She is Commended for developing community based forums to help women address their criminogenic needs, and for the advice and guidance she has provided over almost two decades.

COMMENDEE 2018-19: Stuart is a Volunteer at HMP Whatton. He is granted a Commendation for the dedication he has shown in supporting veterans in the prison, alongside the Armed Forces charity SSAFA, and in helping lead Whatton’s OPAL service for older prisoners, in conjunction with Age UK.

COMMENDEE 2018-19: Susie is the Managing Chaplain at HMP & YOI Isis. She is Commended for her inspiring leadership of a team which plays a central and widely-respected role across the establishment, and for nurturing a prison band that has now appeared on several albums.

COMMENDEE 2018-19: Shane is a Physical Education Instructor at HMP Haverigg. He receives a Commendation for the drive and creativity he has shown in promoting the physical and mental health of prisoners, including in setting up the UK’s first ever prison Parkrun.

COMMENDEE 2018-19: Nichola is a Workshop Instructor at HMP Leeds. She receives a Commendation for her contributions, on a voluntary basis, to three different staff equality and diversity networks, and for developing a widely praised toolkit on working with transgender offenders.
