Putting someone forward for an Award

While anyone can recommend someone to be nominated, a formal nomination needs to be made by someone with the authority to do so on behalf of the workplace concerned.

If you'd like to put someone forward - or just find out more about how you can do so - we need to start by asking you a few questions so we can direct you accordingly.

[NOTE: nominees must (still) be working in the sector at the time of their nomination; and while we do occasionally give Awards to two or (very rarely) three people jointly, we can not accept nominations for larger groups.]

About who you want to put forward

Please tell the establishment’s Local Butler Trust Champion (or the Governor/Director if you don’t know who that is) who you’d like to put forward and why, so they can draw up a formal nomination. (Don’t forget the end of June closing date!).

Please forward a recommendation – explaining who you’d like to see nominated and why – to one of the above, so they can then submit a formal nomination to us. (Don’t forget the end of June closing date!).

------------------------------ PROCEED POINTS IF ELIGIBLE TO NOMINATE----------------------------------

You are welcome to nominate someone yourself, or ask someone else to draft a nomination on your behalf. [Please note though that you can’t nominate someone who is senior to you.]

If you'd like to make a nomination yourself, or find out more about what it entails, click 'Next'.

If you’d like someone to draft a nomination on your behalf, they should tick the 2nd box in answer to 'which of the following best describes you', and forward the nomination to you for sign off when they're done.

While the official closing date for the Awards is 30 June, we can let you have a little more time if you're struggling to finish a nomination in time. However, you must have started completing 'The Nomination' section of this form by 1 July at the latest. And all nominations must be completed in full, and signed off, by 6 July.

Before you begin

A nomination has two core elements:

  1. Reasons for the nomination (max 500 words) - what’s special about the nominee and their work
  2. Support for the nomination (max 500 words) - testimonials from colleagues, people in prison/on probation etc

You can find some example nominations on the recent winners page of our site (opens in a new tab).

While you can save a part-completed nomination and come back to it later, you might want to start collecting some testimonials together, and thinking about what to put under “Reasons for the nomination”, before you go any further.

Please click the "Next" button to start drawing up a nomination.

Number of nominees

The Awards are primarily for individuals. We do occasionally give Awards to two or (very rarely) three people jointly, where each nominee is judged outstanding in their own right - but we are afraid that we can not accept nominations for larger groups.

How many people is this nomination for?*

We are sorry, but we can not accept joint nominations for more than three people.

Please note: while we do occasionally grant Awards jointly, we can only do so where each person is judged to be worthy of an Award in their own right – and you will need to make a case for each of them in your nomination.

NOMINATION CONTENT

Please note:

  1. You can save the nomination at any time (using the 'save' button at the bottom of the page) and we’ll send you a link so you can come back to it later.
  2. Please avoid any jargon and acronyms that a lay member of our Awarding Panel might not understand - and please don’t refer to people in prison or on probation as PiPs or PoPs!
  3. We publish winning nominations, so please make sure you anonymise any prisoners/service users etc.
While you can edit the contents here if you wish, you'll have the chance to rate the nomination, and add your own comments to it, when you sign it off. [When you're ready, click "Next" to scroll through to the sign off section.]

Reasons for the nomination

Please outline the reasons for the nomination (in no more than 500 words)

Use this section to tell us what it is about them and their work that makes them worthy of recognition. Please include details from the initial recommendation, and who made it (including their position/job title).

Use this section to tell us what it is about them and their work that makes them worthy of recognition.

Click here for more guidance on what to include here (including a link to our AI tool)

This is the key section of a nomination and is for you to let our Awarding Panel know what it is about a nominee that sets them apart and makes them worthy of wider recognition.

Please include any of the following you think relevant (and please note this is for guidance only, it’s not an exhaustive list, and you don’t have to cover everything in it either):

  1. what’s special about their work / how they carry out their role [eg the quality of their work, skills they bring to it etc]
  2. what personal qualities they have that make them stand out [eg their compassion, integrity, resilience etc]
  3. what impact they have had [in relation to colleagues, offenders, and/or the workplace as a whole]
  4. any particular challenges at work they’ve had to overcome
  5. any examples which help illustrate the nomination and what makes them special

You are welcome to include one or two (short) quotes from other people here (with their agreement), but wider testimonials in support of the nomination should go in the “support for the nomination” section below.

If you're struggling with how to construct this section of the nomination, our AI tool might help - but please note it is for guidance only: Open the AI tool (opens in a new tab)

Finally, please note that while there is a 500 word limit, that does NOT mean you need to write 500 words!

Support for the nomination

Testimonials from other people with whom they work (colleagues/managers, as well as prisoners/service users etc) can really help to bring a nomination to life. Do you want to add any here? (500 words max)
  • Please ONLY use this section to include comments from other people in support of the nomination.
  • Let them know their comments will be shared with the nominee.
  • Make sure that prisoners/service users etc are fully anonymised.

Are you happy for us to share this nomination with the nominee concerned?*
