The Butler Trust

The people working in UK custodial and community justice settings do truly extraordinary jobs; but they are largely hidden from view, and rarely get any thanks for what they do.

Alongside our #HiddenHeroes campaign, which shines a light on the workforce as a whole, the Butler Trust Awards help give credit where it’s due to those who stand out even among their Hidden Hero colleagues.

Putting someone forward for an award

The Awards are open to people working in the UK - whether as a directly employed member of staff, a third-party employee, or volunteer - in one of the following settings:

prisons | probation | youth justice | IRCs | escort services

To be considered for an Award, a person needs to be formally nominated by someone in an appropriate position to do so.

However, anyone (a colleague, prisoner/service user etc, or member of the public) can recommend someone to be nominated, even if they can’t make the nomination themselves.
