COMMENDEE 2020-21: Sara Musker works as a Safety Analyst at Hindley Prison, but is Commended for her role in the Decency Team, which she does in addition to her main work, and does quite extraordinarily well, as attested in heartfelt testimonials by both colleagues and prisoners, upon whose lives she clearly makes a real and very positive impact.

DEREK RHODEN (North West National Probation Service)

COMMENDEE 2020-21: Derek Rhoden is a Senior Probation Officer who is Commended for his clear, consistent, and compassionate impact across a wide range of work, including his ongoing and influential focus on, and contributions to, diversity and inclusion. His commitment and passion, across all his roles – including his wider charitable work in the community – is notable and clearly held in very high regard indeed by his colleagues.

IAN SPARSHOTT (Hampshire & Isle of Wight CRC)

COMMENDEE 2020-21: Ian Sparshott is a volunteer for the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Community Rehabilitation Company (CRC). He receives a Commendation for his voluntary role, which draws on his own extensive lived experience, and in which he has delivered many hundreds of hours in voluntary support, acted as a mainstay for a successful service user led initiative – and a successful volunteer recruiter – and added vital support during the Covid-19 pandemic.

COMMENDEE 2020-21: Tracey Varela is a Group HR Business Partner at HMP Kirkham, but receives a Commendation for her outstanding work in another role, as a key driver of Kirkham’s rehabilitation culture, bringing passion and imagination to events that have hugely positive benefits on the lives of both prisoners and staff.

COMMENDEE 2020-21: Jacqui Wizard has spent a quarter of a century providing outstanding nursing at HMP Grendon, where she is now Head of Healthcare. She receives a Commendation for not only the excellence of her work, but its characteristic focus on giving the best possible care to her charges and always aiming to deliver to the standard they would receive in a community setting.

CAROLYN WOOD (Aycliffe Secure Centre)

COMMENDEE 2020-21: Carolyn Wood is a Specialist Physical Health Nurse who has been in nursing for over three decades. She is Commended for her work at Aycliffe Secure Centre, ‘a secure children’s home providing high quality, specialist secure accommodation for young people between the ages of 10 and 18’, where her leadership, compassion, dedication and commitment to the highest standards is widely admired.
