EVE CHESTER (North West National Probation Service)

COMMENDEE 2020-21: Eve is a Probation Officer described by her initial nominator, Senior Probation Officer Caroline Bewley, as “a special woman, an amazing woman, probation worker, union supporter and friend to many.”  Caroline adds that “Eve continues to give 120% to every person she works with or for. Her ethic of caring for the individual in front of her; irrespective of who they are, what they have done or whether they are being fair or realistic never waivers. Eve has dedicated her working career to helping people and keeping communities […]

ROLAND CLARK (South East & Eastern National Probation Service)

COMMENDEE 2020-21: Roland was an outstanding Victim Liaison Officer who sadly died after his nomination. The high regard of his colleagues was reflected in their decision, alongside his family, to continue with the Awards process – and his Commendation in turn reflects his significant and important contribution in an often ‘unsung’ area of criminal justice, as the following testimonials amply demonstrate.

BRENDAN DOYLE (HMP Coldingley)

COMMENDEE 2020-21: A Band 3 Prison Officer who has worked in the service for 32 years, Brendan is described by his Initial Nominator, HMP Coldingley’s Head of Operations Stephen Murdy, as “enthusiastic, dependable and fair”. Among several examples he gives, Stephen cited Brendan’s outstanding personal support to a colleague who was having “great personal issues in his home life”, and who when he heard Stephen was nominating Brendan came to say that “without the support of his manager and Brendan, he was unable to cope with his personal issues and […]

GAYNER HOLNESS (HMP/YOI Bronzefield)

COMMENDEE 2020-21: Gayner Holness is a member of the Offender Management Unit at HMP Bronzefield and is Commended for her remarkable Family Engagement work. In addition to that very impressive role, she is also an Offender Supervisor. ROWAN MACKENZIE (HMPs Gartree & Stafford)

COMMENDEE 2020-21: It’s a testament to Rowan Mackenzie’s work as a Volunteer Drama Tutor that two prisons in which she works independently sent in nominations for her to the Butler Trust Awards. A further – and rather remarkable – testament to her ability to pass on her love of Shakespeare to prisoners is that one prisoner’s nomination began with… a sonnet.
